About the event

Periodontology is the department of dentistry that deals with gum diseases. Insufficient or ineffective oral and dental care accelerates the formation of gum problems. Gum diseases are very common in society, as high as 75%. When gingivitis increases, it causes melting of the bone tissue that holds the teeth and the teeth become loose and lost even if they are cavity-free. When gum disease progresses, it negatively affects our general health.

The first stage of intraoral examination begins with visual and manual examination methods. However, an examination limited to this is never sufficient. Our biggest help in this regard is intraoral x-ray films. If a film needs to be taken for any problem related to a single tooth, small films, which we call periapical films, are taken, of which there are two types, depending on the case.

What is Periodontal Disease?

Periodontal diseases are inflammatory diseases that affect the gums and other tissues that support the teeth. Periodontal diseases are responsible for 70% of tooth loss in adults. These diseases can be treated easily and successfully when diagnosed at an early stage. Prevention or treatment of gum diseases; It also brings other benefits such as protecting natural teeth, providing more comfortable chewing and better digestion.

Healthy gums have an orange peel appearance, have a pink and hard consistency that surrounds the tooth.

gingivitis

Gums become inflamed due to soft bacterial plaque. During this period, bleeding begins. If plaque is not removed, it hardens and turns into tartar.

Periodontitis

Soft tissues swell, fibers break, the gum separates from the tooth, and the bone begins to melt.

Treatment Methods

curettage

The inside of deep gingival pockets is cleaned by curettage, and root surface planing is applied to the surface that has lost its lubricity.

Flap Operations

In cases of gum disease that has progressed to bone tissue, flap surgery can be performed under limited anesthesia.

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty

Additionally, gum shortening (gingivectomy) and shaping (gingivoplasty) for aesthetic or therapeutic purposes.
